Jen DePaolo is a socially engaged artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico located on the unceded land of the Tewa people. Her studio practice and community projects celebrate interdependence and nurture. Jen’s work is shaped by relationships between people, societies and ecosystems; she leverages art making and social practice to build and strengthen these relationships. She was awarded a Resiliency Residency with Albuquerque’s Urban Enhancement Trust Fund to create Among the Living, a solo exhibition of sculpture and social practice held at 1415 Gallery. She was one of nineteen artists chosen to create an installation for Wo/ManHouse 2022, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Womanhouse by Miriam Schapiro, Judy Chicago and students of the Cal Arts Feminist Art Program. She integrates food and pottery in partnership with Edible Magazine and local growers, chefs and other artists through Gathered. Together with artist Jane Gordon, she co-founded the What Becomes Project which won an award from the Fulcrum Fund of 516 Arts and the Andy Warhol Foundation to promote community engagement through the arts. Jen co-organized Burque Noir with Ebony Booth to promote and celebrate Black visual and performing artists. Jen partnered with local farmers and Bernalillo County for her project Between You & Me, an interactive installation designed to bring people face-to-face to share differences and examine what they hold in common. Jen is the Director of Outreach at Harwood Art Center where she oversees the grant program and directs outreach programs including the paid summer Apprenticeship in Art & Social Justice.
